The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals involved in fighting online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been at the heart of efforts to enact laws governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in criticizing the decision.
The bans were imposed on Tuesday against an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with several activists fighting false information, including Germany and the United Kingdom.
